The FBT (Fused Biconical Taper) splitter is the original passive splitting technology: two or more fibres are twisted together, heated until they fuse, and then drawn apart so that the light couples between them in a controlled ratio. Huifiber supplies FBT splitters in 1x2, 1x4, 1x8 and 1x16 configurations for applications where the split ratio has to be exact and the wavelength window is narrow.
The fused coupler is mounted in a stainless steel or plastic tube and potted to protect the taper region from mechanical stress, then fitted with 900 µm or 2.0 mm pigtails and the required connectors. Because the taper is a continuous glass joint rather than an aligned pair of ferrules, there is no air gap and no alignment tolerance to drift — the ratio is set during manufacture and stays fixed.
FBT and PLC splitters are not interchangeable, and the choice comes down to channel count and wavelength range. FBT is the better option at low port counts and at a single wavelength, because its excess loss is low and the ratio can be trimmed precisely. PLC is the better option from 1x8 upward and where the whole 1260-1650 nm window has to pass with a flat response, because the planar waveguide gives much better uniformity between output ports. If you need a 1x16 or larger with consistent port-to-port power, specify PLC; if you need an exact 1x2 or 1x4 tap at 1310 or 1550 nm, FBT is usually cheaper and lower loss.
What is the difference between FBT and PLC splitters? FBT fuses fibres together to couple light between them and suits low port counts at a single wavelength; PLC uses a planar waveguide circuit etched onto a chip and suits 1x8 and above across the full 1260-1650 nm window.
Can you supply unbalanced split ratios? Yes. Ratios such as 90/10, 95/05 and 99/01 are available for monitoring and tap applications — tell us the ratio and wavelength and we will confirm the loss figures.
Do the splitters come with connectors? Yes, in any combination of SC, LC, FC or ST with UPC or APC polish, or as bare-fibre pigtails for splicing.

FBT Fiber Optic Splitter using Fused Biconical Taper technology. 1x2 to 1x16 ratios, low insertion loss, unbalanced taps available, SC/LC/FC connectors.
Yes. Huifiber supplies cable under the buyer's own brand as well as under the Huifiber brand. Fibre count, jacket material, jacket print, drum marking, drum length, packaging and datasheet layout can all be produced to the customer's requirement, and the engineering team can work from a customer specification or adapt an existing construction to a new route requirement.
Every production batch is tested before it leaves the plant in Dongguan. Attenuation and geometry are measured on OTDR and optical bench equipment, and mechanical performance is verified against the datasheet for the construction. A factory test report is issued with each shipment, so an incoming inspection can be checked against the same numbers.
Send the fibre count and fibre type, the jacket material or fire rating, the route length or span and the drum length you need, the destination port or country, and any certification or test-report requirement. With those details the sales engineer can confirm the construction and return a quotation with an indicative lead time.
